You are feeling down, or you are feeling very stressed. You may be facing a big life decision and do not know how to proceed. It seems to resuscitate old wounds. You’ve been there before.
Whatever your issue is, there are solutions.
These days, the first line of defense is to throw medication at it. It often works. But it often is not deeper than a band aid. Just like with a band-aid, you need a process that will help you heal in depth.
If it is literally a band aid, your body heals itself. But with mental health, therapy is needed.
(Yet sometimes, there is no option but to turn to medication as a line of first defense. The right medication does work well).
Very generally speaking, there are two main ‘stains’ of therapy: CBT and, broadly speaking, ‘Talk therapy’ (mind you, this can be misleading, as CBT is also mainly based on talking). Both work, but for different things and work differently.
I trained in both, but I mostly trained in psychoanalysis, which is the oldest of all talk therapies. Virtually all talk therapy came out as offshoots of psychoanalysis.
The differences, in a sentence, are that CBT tends to work faster, but tends not to ‘hold’ as long or as well (there are exceptions), while talk therapy takes longer, goes deeper and when it does works, it works really really well.
Allow me to invite you to schedule a free first session to discuss your issues and see where we can go from there.
